Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Aesthetics

Bentley is a firm which takes its aesthetics seriously. The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever built. The rear tonneau, for example, showcased the biggest piece of book-matched, dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer ever applied to the production Bentley. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

Design

In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a custom-designed specification called the Centenary Specification for cars built in 2019. This includes contrast stitching and cross-stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embossed in Centenary Gold, adding to the sense of celebration. The Centenary Specification also includes a custom Bentley keycase, adding to the Bentley experience.

Function


The Bentley Mulsanne key features buttons that open the trunk and another which starts the car. The key also has a button to turn on the parking brake. There is a knob that can fold and unfold the mirrors while parked in tight areas. This feature makes it easier to get into and out of your vehicle.

Personalisation

Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to essentially design their own car. The guests sit at a collection of images called "mood stations" and select a series of photos ranging from scenic landscapes to sporting events that are inspiring to them. After each selection is made, a pattern is created which shows the design and color preferences for the custom Bentley.

The guests are given a key case made by hand and containing the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. Keys can also be equipped with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps, which illuminate the door-opening path with the owner's name or logo as they make their way towards the vehicle.

Bentley estimates that it takes 500 man-hours on average to build and assemble a Mulsanne. The unwillingness to embrace modern technology is the main factor to this lengthy and laborious process.
